This painting was inspired by the Ten Thousand Islands of Florida. This lesser-known area is marked by its absolutely gorgeous map of ten thousand (or more) mangrove islands that blend into thousands of acres of sawgrass, leading into the Everglades. Putting through the mangrove trails on a jon boat or skiff is such a wonderous way to spend time with nature, watching the mullet jump as the jacks chase them through the crystal clear shallow water, American crocodiles and alligators patrol the edges of sawgrass beds, and racoons shuffle their little paws through the mud searching for snails and crabs to eat. I had the absolute pleasure of spending time out there fishing and exploring with friends in college.
