About your Hunt
Twigg's Gator Outfitter will customize your hunt to your
capabilities and preferences; while maintaining all state and federal
regulations as outlined in Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's
guidelines.
We use our airboat to get to tough places where alligators hang out, but depending on the AMU (Alligator Management Unit area) you draw tags for, you may need to hunt from shore as well.
We lay out a plan before any action is taken so that you are involved in everything we do to get your alligator tags filled.
Time and Place
Our Hunts are booked for season on a first-come first-served basis for areas we cover.
The Florida Statewide Alligator Hunt allows only a certain
number of alligators to be harvested in dedicated AMUs (Alligator Management
Units) across Florida. Applications for this lottery permit system are
accepted in May, and permits are issued after all application periods are
finished. The first 3 numbers of the AMU represent the area, while the last
number (1,2,3, or 4) represents the time phase the permit is valid for in the
season.
Twigg's Gator Outfitter primarily serves clients issued
permits in the following AMUs:
Okeechobee County (8471-4)
Martin County (8431-4)
Palm Beach County (8501-4)
Hendry County (8261-4)
Glades County (8221-4)
Lake Hiepochee (4091-4)
Kissimee Pool E (1031-4)
Okeechobee North (6021-4)
Okeechobee East (6031-4)
Okeechobee South (6041-4)
Okeechobee West (6011-4)
Example: if your permit is under AMU 4092, that means you
can hunt in Lake Hiepochee (AMU 409) in the second phase (2) of season.
What You Need to Bring
In order to be fully prepared for your hunt, you need to bring includes as follows:
- Your signed permit paperwork and tags issued by FWC (it is also recommended that you download the Fish Hunt FL app on your Apple or Android phone)
- Any people helping you hunt with us will need to purchase a $52.00 Alligator Trapping Agent License through FWC's Website (also easily viewed through the app)
- Appropriate clothing: It can, believe it or not, get cold at night on the water in Florida. A light rain-proof jacket is recommended as well as SPF long sleeve or short sleeve shirts. Jeans or pants are also recommended as they provide protection from bugs, sun, and wind. Sturdy, comfortable, well-treaded shoes are also recommended as we will be on a boat or in mud and you may need to stand or walk with slippery or rocking conditions.
- Equipment: If you have your own equipment such as rods, treble hooks, and bang sticks, you are welcome to bring them. However, we also provide all necessary equipment for harvesting an alligator through legal methods of take through our equipment rental service.
- A Good Attitude: Alligator hunting is tricky. These animals are very skittish and you may miss out on a gator every once in a while. Please be courteous to our guides.
