The Twigg's Gator Experience
How it works
Alligator Hunting and Harvest
Step 1: Tags and License
Before you hunt alligators in Florida, you need proper licensing. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (or FWC for short) issues about 7000 public land permits (2 tags each) through a lottery drawing each year starting in May.
To hunt with Twigg's Gator Outfitter, all you will need is to be awarded a permit and bring the permit and tags with you on the hunt.
If you want to bring a family member or friend to assist in the hunt, they will need to purchase an "Alligator Trapping Agent" from the same site.
Step 2: The Hunt
How do you hunt an alligator? In Florida, there are very strict regulations on how, where and when you can hunt.
Twigg's Gator Outfitter will help you hunt using your tags in the proper way, area, and time.
How: Here is a link to the legal methods of take for public land alligator hunting: Methods for Harvesting an Alligator
Where: The area you are allowed to hunt in will be specified on the permit you are awarded.
When: The first four weeks of Alligator season in Florida is split into four phases, the phase you are allowed to hunt in (I, II, III, or IV) will be noted on your permit. You can only hunt during one of those first four weeks depending on your permit. Then, after those first four weeks are done, anyone with tags may hunt their area for the rest of the season.
Step 3: Meat Processing
Captain Twigg will attest to the fact that every part of the alligator can be used, including all of the delicious meat they yield.
Alligator meat is low in cholesterol and very lean, it has a mild taste that readily adopts the flavor profile of whatever palette your pan may hold.
Whether you want gator bites or gator burgers, Twigg's Gator Outfitter will utilize the most of your alligators meat to fulfill your desires for the freezer and your table!
Skinning and butchering alligators can be tricky due to their thick skin and unique body structure, let Captain Twigg handle the dirty work for you!
Step 4: Taxidermy & Products
Everyone loves a souvenir! From skull mounts to purses, to something as simple as a picture. Alligator skin and bones can be used for many different types of trophies and products.
