Lake Okeechobee, Florida, is one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of living. The lake is so massive that you can barely see across while standing on the 20-foot dike that surrounds it. I painted this scene while I was living in Clewiston, Florida, and it was the closest I ever felt to being in God's country. This painting features some alligator hunters on an airboat, a sea plane flying overhead, and a few alligators (my favorite animal to hunt, paint, and cook). In the foreground, a beautiful blooming flower called the Duck Potato is a native plant from which the roots can be eaten like potatoes, and ducks like to eat the flat seeds they produce.
